Golf Course Construction
There are currently nine holes of golf at the Rossland Golf
course. Redstone will add 10 new holes which will be roughly
cut in 2005. Technically this would leave a nineteen whole course
but the existing number nine will be converted to a driving
range once the new number nine grows in. Final shaping and seeding
will happen in 2006, and the course should be ready to play
in the spring of 2007.
Hole Descriptions by Les Furber
We would like to take the opportunity to highlight the philosophy
and elevation changes that will be part of the shot values on
the new holes at Redstone. We consider the number of golf shots
played to a lower elevation to be the most visible, memorable
and rewarding for all players.
In theory, in a round of par 72 a golfer is required to play
36 golf shots and 36 putts to complete the round. The concept
design plan for Redstone requires you to play only 4 out of
18 (22%) uphill shots on the front 9 holes and 2 out of 18 (11%)
uphill shots on the back 9 holes. This is remarkable for any
alpine style golf course setting and will add to Redstone’s
uniqueness and playability. The total is 6 out of 36 (<17%)
shots that play uphill!
All of the proposed green locations on the
front 9 except whole # 2 are located behind present green sites
or in new locations generally out of play for ease of renovations
and to minimize the impact of play for the members and green
fee players. This is a strong character front 9 holes and reduces
the walk-back areas and steeper elevation changes that were
in play on the existing 9 holes.
