It’s early morning; sunbeams dance across the deck to the soundtrack of gentle birdsong. As you enjoy your morning coffee and gaze out over Redstone Resort’s fairways to the valley beyond, you take a deep breath of crisp mountain air. It’s truly one of the most gorgeous views and best feelings on earth.
General Manager Jeff Bruce introduced you to the personalities of the front nine; now he describes Redstone’s back nine:
“The front nine is Dr. Jekyll to the back nine’s Mr. Hyde. The front nine is a little more subdued; it’s flatter, with open tee shots, and everything is laid out for you to score. The back nine is Mr. Hyde; you’re basically hiding on every hole, since it’s cut out of the mountainside, and tee shots are a very important part of the game. Even though there are a few tougher sections, they’re there to improve your game while you enjoy the incredible scenery. It’s all about good times and great golf!”
For years, the Fly Wide Open has been the event of the season. Kelly recalls her husband playing in the tourney in 2001, the year she was pregnant with her daughter Eva. “I was four days overdue and he went out to Champion Lakes to play in it… Like, you just did — no matter what!”
The natural beauty of Redstone engages the senses and evokes many happy memories for our members — both on and off the course. This month we revel in some of those fond memories as we honour the late Richard Daoust, a friend, colleague and member who brightened our days on the green and left a lasting legacy behind.
