Live On A Golf Course & Live The Dream

Why More Homebuyers Are Choosing to Live On A Golf Course in British Columbia

If you’re considering whether to live on a golf course, the answer is simple: golf course communities offer a unique combination of open space, beautiful scenery, recreation, community, and long-term lifestyle value. At Redstone Resort in Rossland, BC, homeowners enjoy mountain views, direct access to championship golf, and a four-season outdoor lifestyle that extends far beyond the fairways.

For many people, the dream isn’t just about owning a home. It’s about waking up excited about where you live.

We’ve had the opportunity to meet homeowners who arrived because of the golf course and stayed because of everything else. What they discovered surprised them.

Why Do People Want to Live On A Golf Course?

Most buyers initially focus on the obvious benefit: golf.

That makes sense. Walking out your front door and being minutes from your tee time is appealing. Yet what often surprises new residents is how much they value the other aspects of golf course living.

Wide-open green spaces. Less congestion. Stunning views. A sense of calm.

Unlike many residential developments where homes are tightly packed together, golf course communities naturally create breathing room. Fairways, water features, mature landscaping, and mountain backdrops provide visual space that is increasingly difficult to find.

At Redstone Resort, those views are amplified by the rugged beauty of the West Kootenay. Residents enjoy a setting that feels removed from the noise of city life while remaining connected to the amenities of Rossland and Trail.

What Makes Golf Course Living Different?

It Feels Like Living Inside a Park

One of the most overlooked advantages of golf course living is the daily experience of your surroundings.

Many neighbourhoods offer parks nearby. Golf course communities effectively place the park outside your window.

Morning coffee comes with views of manicured fairways and mountain peaks. Evening walks wind through landscaped streets. Wildlife sightings become part of daily life.

The environment itself encourages people to spend more time outdoors.

Recreation Becomes Effortless

When recreation is convenient, people tend to do more of it.

We’ve seen homeowners who initially purchased a golf course property because they golfed occasionally. Once they moved in, their habits changed. They played more often, walked more frequently, spent more time outside, and became increasingly engaged in community activities.

Golf becomes less of a planned event and more of a lifestyle.

At Redstone Resort, residents also benefit from Rossland’s reputation as one of British Columbia’s premier outdoor recreation destinations. Golf, hiking, mountain biking, skiing, trail running, endless walking, and fishing are all within easy reach.

Is Golf Course Real Estate in BC a Good Investment?

No real estate investment comes with guarantees.

However, golf course communities possess several characteristics that often support long-term desirability.

Limited Supply Creates Appeal

Not every community can build a championship golf course.

Golf course developments are inherently limited by geography, land requirements, and infrastructure costs. That scarcity often creates sustained demand among buyers seeking a particular lifestyle.

Lifestyle Buyers Behave Differently

One interesting aspect of golf course real estate is that many buyers aren’t driven solely by financial considerations.

They’re purchasing a lifestyle.

That emotional connection can build resilience amid changing market conditions, as buyers often seek quality of life rather than simply square footage.

Views Never Go Out of Style

Trends change.

Mountain views, green space, and recreational access do not.

Properties that offer enduring natural features often maintain strong appeal across multiple generations of buyers.

Who Is Golf Course Living Best Suited For?

A common misconception is that golf course communities are only for retirees.

That hasn’t been our experience.

Today’s golf course buyers come from a wide variety of backgrounds:

  • Remote professionals
  • Active retirees
  • Entrepreneurs
  • Young families
  • Outdoor enthusiasts
  • Second-home owners
  • Couples planning future retirement

The common thread isn’t age. It’s lifestyle.

People are increasingly prioritizing where and how they live. Many are willing to trade larger urban centres for communities that offer more recreation, stronger community connections, and a better pace of life.

What Should You Consider Before Buying Golf Course Property?

A Practical Buyer Checklist

Before purchasing any golf course property BC buyers should evaluate several factors:

✓ View orientation

✓ Proximity to fairways and greens

✓ Community amenities

✓ Year-round recreational opportunities

✓ Property maintenance requirements

✓ Future development plans

✓ Access to services and shopping

✓ Seasonal climate considerations

✓ Resale potential

✓ Community culture

At Redstone Resort, many buyers discover that the broader community experience becomes just as important as the golf itself.

The Hidden Benefit Nobody Talks About

Community Happens Naturally

One of the strongest advantages of golf course living rarely appears in real estate listings.

Community.

Golf courses create gathering places.

Neighbours meet on the course, at tournaments, during community events, and through shared recreational interests. Friendships form naturally because residents already have common ground.

In a time when many people report feeling disconnected, that sense of belonging has become increasingly valuable.

We’ve heard homeowners describe it as one of the best unexpected benefits of their move.

Why Are More Canadians Choosing Lifestyle-Based Communities?

A shift has occurred over the past decade. Many buyers have moved from asking:

“How much house can I afford?”

to

“What kind of life do I want to live?”

That question often leads people toward destinations like Rossland.

The combination of recreation, natural beauty, community, and quality of life has become increasingly attractive, particularly to remote workers and active retirees who have greater flexibility in choosing where to live.

The home itself matters.

The life surrounding it matters even more.

Live The Dream at Redstone Resort

The phrase “live on a golf course” often brings to mind beautiful views and convenient tee times. Those benefits are real.

Yet what we see repeatedly at Redstone Resort is something deeper. Homeowners discover a lifestyle centred around outdoor recreation, meaningful community connections, and the simple pleasure of living in an extraordinary setting.

For some, it’s the golf that brings them here. For many, it’s everything else that convinces them to stay.

If you’ve been imagining a home where mountain views, championship golf, four-season recreation, and community come together, Redstone Resort offers an opportunity to experience the lifestyle you’ve been dreaming about.

Redstone Resort: One of the Best Golf Resort Communities in British Columbia

Why Redstone Is Becoming One of the Best Golf Resort Communities in British Columbia

The best golf resort communities in British Columbia successfully blend championship courses with authentic neighbourhood experiences, year-round mountain recreation, and active housing markets. Redstone exemplifies this shift, moving past isolated seasonal fairways to provide an active, fully integrated residential community where premium golf meets everyday mountain lifestyle, community events, and consistent real estate options.

Why Is the Traditional Golf Resort Model Failing Modern Buyers?

Something has shifted fundamentally in golf culture over the last decade. Beautiful fairways are no longer enough to sustain real estate value or resident lifestyle satisfaction.

A few years ago, information was collected regarding resident retention across several Pacific Northwest master-planned communities. The data was clear: developments built solely around an exclusive, isolated golf course sat empty for six months of the year. Residents felt isolated, not insulated.

Modern buyers want a lifestyle anchor. They want connection, walkable streets, local food, and a sense of place that remains vibrant after the course closes for the season.

The Rise of “Lifestyle Density”

The term lifestyle density describes what modern buyers are looking for today. It means having multiple high-value experiences accessible within a five-minute radius of your front door.

  • Championship golf and driving ranges.
  • Direct access to hiking and mountain biking.
  • A clubhouse that doubles as a neighbourhood living room.
  • Diverse winter recreation, like alpine and Nordic skiing and snowshoeing.
  • An active, multi-generational mix of neighbours.

What Makes Redstone Stand Out Among Golf Resort Living Options in BC?

Many master-planned projects feel polished but strangely hollow. You see immaculate lawns but empty streets.

Redstone feels different because the community infrastructure grew organically alongside the course. It operates as a local hub first and a resort second. You see kids riding bikes, neighbours meeting on the clubhouse patio, and local hikers crossing paths with golfers.

Food Culture as a Social Anchor

People remember exceptional meals far longer than scorecards. Most golf course dining ranges from frozen pub fare to overly formal, stuffy dining rooms.

At Redstone, the culinary space acts as the community’s primary social engine. The patio fills up naturally on summer afternoons, turning a casual post-round drink into an evening with neighbours. It bridges the gap between seasonal visitors and full-time residents. It’s close enough to the City of Rossland that you can enjoy a range of refreshing options.

A Year-Round Event Ecosystem

A true neighbourhood requires shared experiences to build familiarity. Redstone uses a structured, year-round calendar to prevent the community from feeling transactional or quiet during the shoulder seasons.

Competitive Tournaments: High-energy weekends that bring regional talent and local camaraderie together.

Weddings and Private Events: Utilizing the mountain backdrop to bring new families into the valley.

Live Music Nights: Casual evening gatherings that turn the clubhouse into a local music venue for residents and travellers alike.

What Do Real Estate and Homes for Sale Look Like at Redstone?

The demand for golf resort living BC options focuses heavily on flexibility. The modern buyer is rarely a traditional retiree; the demographic now includes remote executives, active families, and seasonal cross-country lifestyle movers.

Because of this, the residential landscape at Redstone emphasizes architectural diversity over cookie-cutter designs.

Property Type Primary Appeal Best For
Custom Mountain Homes Panoramic views, premium finishes Full-time families & retirees
Golf-Adjacent Lots Direct course access, custom builds Enthusiasts wanting tailored builds
Lock-and-Leave Living Low maintenance, high efficiency Seasonal residents & remote workers

The common thread among buyers here isn’t age or income bracket. It is a shared prioritization of outdoor utility and casual, unpretentious social environments.

How to Evaluate a Mountain Golf Community Before Buying

If you are looking at the best mountain golf communities in BC, do not just look at the slope rating or the real estate brochure. Use this five-step framework to test the community’s long-term viability.

Visit on a Tuesday afternoon: Does the clubhouse have local energy, or is it completely dead outside of weekend tourist rushes?

Check the winter amenities: If the course is closed for six months, what keeps the neighbourhood and greater community connected? Look for cross-country trails, snowshoe routes, or winter clubhouse events.

Analyze the architectural guidelines: Look for developments that honour the mountain landscape rather than forcing urban-suburban designs into a wilderness setting.

Talk to a non-golfer: Walk the residential streets and strike up a conversation. If people who don’t play golf love living there, the community has true depth.

Evaluate the dining consistency: Eat a meal at the clubhouse. Is it treated as an afterthought or a core feature?

Is the Golf Resort Lifestyle Right for You?

This environment is an ideal fit if you value:

  • Direct, walkable access to outdoor recreation.
  • Built-in social networks through tournaments and club events.
  • Living around people who prioritize health, movement, and nature.
  • A slower, mountain-town pace without sacrificing premium food and amenities.

This environment may not fit your needs if you prefer:

  • Complete urban anonymity.
  • High-density nightlife and city convenience.
  • Gated, hyper-private enclaves are completely cut off from the local town.

The Redstone Distinctions

BC has larger resorts and more famous, expensive postal codes. However, Redstone occupies a specific, highly sought-after middle ground: authentic mountain culture without pretension.

People typically discover the community through a tee time or a weekend wedding. They stay because they realize the lifestyle here is incredibly difficult to replicate elsewhere. The conversation shifts quickly from a great weekend trip to a permanent lifestyle change!

Discover Copper Ridge at Redstone – unmatched golf course real estate opportunities.

If you’ve been dreaming of a life where adventure meets serenity—where a round of golf, a ski day, or a mountain bike ride is just steps from your front door—then it’s time to consider the golf course real estate opportunities at Redstone Resort in Rossland, BC. With well-priced homes, fully serviced lots, and a tight-knit community, Redstone offers a rare chance to invest in more than just property—it’s an investment in lifestyle, health, and long-term value.

Key Takeaways:

  • Golf course real estate opportunities in Rossland offer unbeatable value compared to other resort communities.
  • Redstone Resort is ideal for retirement, family living, or rental investment.
  • New Copper Ridge lots deliver mountain views, ski access, and golf-at-your-doorstep luxury.

The Best Bang for Your Buck in BC Resort Living

Redstone’s Copper Ridge development features sixteen premier residential lots along the first fairway. These properties offer the kind of fairway views and fresh mountain air that other resort communities like Predator Ridge, Sun Peaks, and Big White advertise—but at half the price.

“People are leaving the more expensive markets in favour of places like here,” says Melannie Vokeroth of Century 21 Kootenay Homes. “These are the only fairway-side lots in the West Kootenay—and they’re a dream come true for anyone looking to invest in recreation, community, and quality of life.”

Four-Season Playground: Why Redstone is More Than Just Golf

Rossland is one of BC’s best-kept secrets. Located just minutes from Red Mountain Resort, it offers four-season recreation: golf in the summer, skiing and snowshoeing in the winter, and year-round hiking and biking. Living on the golf course at Redstone puts all of this within arm’s reach.

At Copper Ridge, you’re:

  • 5 minutes from downtown Rossland
  • 10 minutes from Red Mountain Resort
  • Steps from hiking and biking trails
  • Surrounded by nature, quiet, and clean mountain air

The south-facing, gently sloped lots are also pre-approved for rental suites, making them an ideal real estate investment or part-time vacation home with income potential.

Built for Life: New, Energy-Efficient Homes

Redstone homes are designed for the future. Buyers can expect energy-efficient construction, quality craftsmanship, and smart, sustainable design. Whether you’re looking for a single-family home, a duplex with one-floor living, or something with income-generating potential, you’ll find it here.

Plus, with underground servicing, no strata, and city-managed utilities, owning a home here is as simple as it is rewarding.

A Welcoming Community Where You Belong

More than just an investment, Redstone is a place to put down roots. Just ask residents Sandra and Wes Meger, who moved to Redstone from Fort McMurray in search of a better lifestyle.

“As soon as I stepped onto my lot, I knew this is where I wanted to be,” Sandra says. “I’m just so grateful for where I live — it’s breathtaking.”

With friendly neighbours, dog-friendly golf outings, and a vibrant local culture, the community is both laid-back and welcoming. Whether you’re semi-retired, raising a family, or investing in a rental property, you’ll find Redstone feels like home.

Redstone Real Estate vs. the Competition

When it comes to value, Redstone real estate stands head and shoulders above other BC resort communities. Compared to high-profile destinations like Predator Ridge, Big White, Sun Peaks, or Silverstar, Redstone offers the same stunning views, four-season recreation, and golf-at-your-doorstep lifestyle—but at a fraction of the cost. While other resorts boast luxury, they often come with inflated prices and limited community connection.

Redstone delivers an authentic mountain town feel, with well-built, energy-efficient homes, flexible zoning for rental income, and unbeatable access to both golf and skiing. At Redstone, you’re not compromising on amenities, lifestyle, or investment potential—you’re just paying less for more. For those seeking real estate investments that combine lifestyle and long-term value, Rossland real estate at Redstone is truly the best bang for your buck.

Invest in Lifestyle. Invest in Rossland.

Whether you’re looking to relocate, retire, or diversify your real estate investments, Redstone’s Copper Ridge lots offer a rare opportunity to be part of something truly special.

With:

  • Strong long-term value
  • Rental suite potential
  • Proximity to outdoor recreation
  • A strong local economy
  • And the unmatched beauty of the West Kootenay region

…Redstone is more than just a smart move. It’s a bold step toward a life well lived.

Ready to Make the Move?

Is this too much for a Golf Website?

Photo Provided by Rossland Tourism | Photographer: Dave Heath

The headlines today from business websites paint a difficult road ahead for Canada, and perhaps the world, from an economic standpoint. The Canadian dollar reaches a 12 year low at 70 cents and change. Some top analyst have the cdn dollar going to 60 cents and oil prices going to $20 a barrel before we see a turn around. The truth may be slightly less but all in all it’s a difficult scenario. While we lament our forgone trips to US hotspots and come to grips with higher lettuce prices we need to not lose sight of the opportunities.

Does this sound like too much info for a Golf Website Blog? Beer drinking and fun loving golfers are also keenly aware of how prices affect their ability to recreate and spend their hard earned dough. Why read on? Simple! Redstone and Rossland in Super Natural BC is one of the most beautiful places in the World and now it’s on sale. Everything from Golf to real estate is on sale with no specific ending date. Rossland B.C., the home of Redstone, is constantly being touted as one of the last great places. The New York Times, National Geographic Magazine and Sunset Magazine have all done articles on Rossland with the same theme ; a genuine town with super people and loads of recreational opportunities.

Malcom Gladwell has written many insightful and thought provoking books over the last ten years. Gladwell’s “Tipping Point” is a book I have read twice. I am obviously not a writer, nor would I presume to condense his book into a single sentence, but here it goes anyways… The book reveals a set of conditions that need to exists for a small number of people start to behave differently causing a ripple effect. Gladwell refers to “Mavens”, “People Collectors” and “Salesman”. You know a Maven. They meet someone on a chair lift or at the golf course and invite a perfect stranger to a potluck thus collecting another friend. You also know the salesman. The person who tells all their friends that they discovered Rossland and encourages or sells the idea that you should ski, golf or mountain bike in Rossland. They are so passionate about it that their enthusiasm encourages people to act. There are external conditions that also need to happen to make all of this work. I believe that there are Mavens and Salesman in our midst and perhaps the drastic drop in the Canadian dollar is exactly the condition that causes the cocktail to fizz and flow over the top.

For those of you that don’t know, in the late 80’s you could buy a home in Rossland for $10,000, the ski hill was owned by a club, the golf course was a 9 hole community run course and mountain biking was just starting to develop. On top of that Black Jack Nordic Trails were operated by a small group of volunteers pulling a small groomer with an old sled and downtown had empty shops and the infrastructure (pipes in the ground) were rotting due to age and neglect.

Fast forward to 2016. The ski hill was sold to private hands and has added 4 new lifts and renovated the day lodge. A couple hundred condos were built, Grey Mountain was added, a new hotel is being built. Redstone golf course was built with 51 new homes in the subdivision, downtown was renovated and upgraded and new specialty shops have popped up everywhere. Mountain biking has become an industry with 100’s of kilometres of Trails and Blackjack Nordic club has new day lodges, a biathlon course and has been upgraded with modern grooming equipment. With 600 plus members.

Have we tipped yet? Not yet. Our population is about the same as it was in the late 80’s but we have extended our reach. In other words, with all of the infrastructure built in the last 26 years and the capacity planned and developed for the next 100 years, Rossland is at the cusp of a giant step forward. The average person in Rossland does not see it, but they feel it. Especially this ski season. The lines at the grocery store are longer. The variety of languages in the check line are not as familiar. The faces at restaurants, shops and liquor stores are ones we just can’t place.

Have we tipped? Not yet. I predict (yes this may be stupidly bold) this winter is the year that Rossland, B.C. tips. Why? Over the years, all of the impressive articles written about the place were developed through the eyes of someone that could see the future. In many ways it has taken 26 years for Rossland to develop and fulfill all the promises that so many people have written about. The lower Canadian dollar will be the catalyst for a next wave of growth. I believe this impending growth includes population increases and increased development of services that people require. That’s the opportunity part.

Yes the dollar and lower commodity prices are painful, and will require adjustment to the Canadian economy, but Rossland has matured and planned for the next phase.  If you’re ready to live in the “Recreation Capital of Canada” then don’t hesitate, because once we do “Tip” you may find yourself saying, “I remember Rossland when it was X$’s to buy a home.”

I have loads of anecdotal evidence to support this but this is just a Golf Blog,

Cary

Live it Up at Redstone Resort

I have been living at Redstone for the past four years and absolutely love it.  I golf, Ski, hike and Bike.  There is more to it than that though.  The Massive number of Trails connecting Rossland is just outside my back door.  In fact everything I LOVE TO DO IS WITHIN 8 MINUTES OF MY HOUSE.  There was a moose on the green on 16 this morning.  I wake up early just to watch the sunrise.  I have no alarm clock waking me up to tell me to go to work.  I have no 45 minute commute.

I feel like one of those lottery commercials where the person can’t believe they won it.  I am inviting you to check out the homes on our website.  Better yet call for a visit and SEE IT FOR YOURSELF.  The value is unbelievable and the local amenities are world class.  If your not from the area check out the deals page on our website for a stay and play.  I guarantee we will not put the hard sell on you.  The locals here don’t boast about what they have but when you ask they will get a wry smile because they have something here that few people in North America have and they really do Live it Up! at Redstone.
